Here are the three things you need to get started writing a children’s book:

1 – A great idea.

The first step to writing a children’s book is to come up with a great idea. This could be anything from a funny story about a talking animal to a heartwarming tale about friendship. The most important thing is that your idea is something that will capture the attention of young readers.

To know if you have a good story idea, you first need to “vet” it against the existing market. Use our Kidlit Idea Decoder to help you get started.

Here are some additional tips for writing a children’s book:

  • Keep it simple. Children’s books are typically short and to the point. Avoid using complex language or long sentences.
  • Use vivid language. Children love to use their imaginations. Help them do that by using vivid language that will bring your story to life.
  • Make it fun. Children’s books should be fun to read. Make sure your story has a good plot, interesting characters, and a satisfying ending.
  • Get feedback. Once you’ve finished writing your book, ask friends, family, or other children to read it and give you feedback. This will help you identify any areas that need improvement.
