"Wow! I must say, I really loved every bit of the lessons, especially the clarity of your instructions. After watching the videos, I got a clear vision of what my own picture book could look like in terms of the plot and I'm feeling really excited about this. Thanks a ton, Brooke."

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

You have an idea for a children's book but you have no idea how to get started . . .

Let's face it -- there's nothing more deceptive than how easy a children's book looks to write. It's only 500 words. How hard can it really be?

Yet when you sit down at your computer, you freeze. You know you have a good idea, something you're excited about, but you don't know how to get that onto the page. Where can you even start?

To help avoid getting overwhelmed by the process, you need someone to help you.

That's where this 5-day writing challenge comes in.

"This has been so helpful! Not only did I change my first story, I threw it out altogether and came up with a much better story line and plot. Understanding the skeleton of a story sure makes it easier to flesh it out. Thank you!"

5-Day Challenge FAQs:

What will I learn in the challenge?

This is a 5-day writing challenge to teach you about how to write a children's book. Each day, you'll get a pre-recorded video lesson to teach you:

  • What it means to write for the children's book industry
  • How to know if your idea's a good one
  • How to create your characters and plot to tell a good story
  • What to do in order to start writing your first draft

What if I'm brand new. Is there a pre-requisite?

There's no pre-requisite! You don't have to know anything about writing or children's books to be successful. The Story Jumpstart is designed to help anyone who's just starting out with a children's idea know what to do, even if they've never had any previous experience.

Is this only for picture books?

No! One of the biggest misconceptions about children's books is that they're restricted to picture books. We'll debunk that on day 1 when we talk about the different age categories to help you understand which is right for your story idea.

When does it take place?

The challenge runs for 5-days via email. (You'll get your first email in 3 days!). At the start of each day, you'll receive a new email with your video lesson for the day.

Is it live?

No. You can watch the video at any time within 24hrs that works for you! Each video lesson is about 30 minutes long, but try to find an hour each day, so you have time to complete the day's activity, too.

How much does it cost to sign-up?
